Welcome to Macau, a massive metropolis located an hour west of Hong Kong via ferry, or two hours if you decide to drive over the Zhūjiāng River estuary (a.k.a. the Pearl River estuary).
Just as Hong Kong was previously a British colony until 1997, when it was returned to China as a Special Administrative Region (SAR), Macau was previously a Portuguese colony, which returned to China as a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China in 1999.
One moniker for Macau is the "Las Vegas of the East" given the city's numerous hotels and casinos, many of which are owned by the same corporations as those along the Las Vegas Strip.
The one day that I was able to visit Macau was very rainy and dreary. Nevertheless, Macau was yet another mesmerizing world that I had never seen until I arrived in Hong Kong in 2010.
Even Mother Nature's bad disposition during my visit could not prevent me from capturing this very exotic, exciting, and extraordinary locale.
